There has been some buzz lately about the latest release of Internet Explorer, IE7. It seems that the default setting of the browser is to block all 3rd party cookies. This is presumably to prevent a lot of ad/spy ware from infecting your computer. The only problem is that MANY online marketing systems rely on 3rd party cookies to function. These systems include almost all affiliate programs, conversion tracking and search engine bid management tools. Clearly, this situation has the potential to be disastrous for many interactive marketers- especially the little guys.
There are still more people using IE6 than IE7, so it’s not clear what, if any, effect this is having on the industry. If anyone has any news or data on this topic, please feel free to contact me.
