A Word from Henry

Aug 3rd, 2007 by Chris | 4

I’m a fan of Henry Rollins; more people should be. Even if you never listened to Black Flag, Rollins Band or his spoken word CDs, even if you’ve never read any of his books, even if you’ve never watched his show, you simply have to respect a man willing to uninhibitedly express himself with zero fear of what others think.

Here’s a great example. If you’re interested in making money online, listen very carefully to this rant and think about how it directly affects you as an internet entrepreneur.

HR hit it on the head.

It’s a relief to me to see more and
more people spreading the good word
    on what’s going on.

This is a “free” country being run by
    people afraid of freedom.

Has nobody noticed the US is now
rated the EIGHTH most free country in the world?

    EIGHTH!

Why aren’t more people outraged by
    that?

The land of the free . . . the home
    of the brave?

    Ain’t neither no more.

People would rather give up their
    freedom for the illusion of
    security than say exactly what
    Henry’s said -

FUCK YOU - this isn’t what I gave
six years in the military for.

This is a free country and if you
    can’t handle what freedom brings
    with it - YOU LEAVE.

HR needs to be hit on the head - he is so far off!!! I am offended, disturbed, and sad for all of the young liberals who actually have been fed this crap for so long that they believe it to be true. What happened to respect for our president? Just because YOU can’t see the big picture doesn’t mean an older, more experienced person does not know things you haven’t learned yet. President Bush did not lie - the media is telling us that crap because they hate him for being a Christian and a Republican. How can you possibly not see that our president is trying to save us and our children from future issues and attacks by trying to take care of those American-hating idiots in Iraq before they wipe us out? Were you not around on 9/11 to see the devastation they caused? Do you want things like that to continue to happen? What is wrong with people today?!?!? We ARE still very much the land of the free and the home of the brave, and if you don’t think so, try living in Iraq and have your head blown off for even speaking against their leaders…..people like HR are going to be just another catalyst in misleading the younger generation that authority is NOT to be respected and God is NOT to be feared, and respect is just something you deserve. How did people get such twisted ideas as that? Wake up and listen to your elders….some day you will see the errors of your ways - I hope…How sad to live a life so angry and misinformed…..I pray for you!

I generally don’t like publishing anonymous comments, but I figured the other side had a right to be heard.

Putting aside for the moment that the point of this post was the inhibitive regulations being proposed and how they might affect internet entrepreneurs, there are a few things I feel I need to address in your comment.

There is a vast difference between respecting your elders, and following them without question. Society is an evolutionary process, not a constant. As such, it is the duty of each generation to question the ideas and values of their predecessors. Failure to follow through on this duty would have prevented the renaissance, abolition of slavery, not to mention the very existence of this country.

Henry Rollins isn’t some kid either. He’s 46. I don’t agree with all of his politics, but he’s a man worth listening to. I hate Michael Moore, but I listen to what he says.

No president ever has the entire country’s respect. People still talk about Clinton’s infidelity, and he is one of the most popular presidents of our time. Regan did two terms and was ruthlessly mocked. You alluded to the lack of free speech in Iraq, and yet say we should hold our tongues from speaking ill of our own leaders. Either it’s all ok, or none of it is. You don’t get to pick and choose with free speech.

That is all. Thank you for reading, and taking the time to comment.

Umm… Anonymous commenter dude… I was in NYC on 9/11/2001… I lost one of my friends who worked in the North tower. And I couldn’t get in touch with my husband who worked down there as well for about 5 hours…

I am so tired of hearing from middle-America wussies that we need to be one “defense” at all times and that President Bush is “a wonderful man with a wonderful administration who are only representing and doing what the majority of Americans want them to do.”

If this is the case, then most of America is fucked up. I respect Henry Rollins for standing up and calling out buillshit as he sees it.

This is fucking America man. If we want other countries to NOT hate us, we need to start being nicer to them.

Not only that, you dickless piece of shit anonymous commenter dude, Iraq didn’t attack us. That is a FACT that has been stated even by fucking Karl Rove himself on Meet the Press last month.
